May 2008 ~ Woodland Long Course

AquaSol swimmers start Long Course Season

Twelve AquaSol swimmers attended the Woodland BB+ Long Course Meet May 16th-18th.

Forty one times were broken as well as thirteen new USA time standards were met. 

Dane Neves 11, hit five new best times and achieved a new USA B time in his 50 breaststroke with a time of 57.20.  Nine year old, Molly Covington, broke her times in all four of her races.  She also took eighteen seconds off of her 100 breaststoke, and qualified for the Junior Olympic meet in her 50 backstroke with a time of 49.73. Sixteen year old, Coleman Goode hit seven new best times and earned a new USA AAA time in his 100 breaststroke as well as two new USA AA times in the 200 free and 200 backstroke.

Twelve year old, Emily Thompson achieved two new USA AA time standards in her 100 and 200 free. She also earned two new USA A standards in the 50 and 100 backstrokes.  Lauren Sanew 12, achieved four new best times and qualified for the Junior Olympic meet in July in all three breaststoke events.  Haley Owens, 11, also qualified for Junior Olympics in her 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Kyle Covington 12, Hannah Covington 11,  Kayla Nalley 13 and Daniel Levine 17, broke times in the majority of their races.

Fifteen year old Mikaela Macklin, was selected Swimmer of the month for AquaSol.  During the same weekend as the Woodland Meet, Mikaela swam at the XLI Santa Clara International Toyota Grand Prix Meet in Santa Clara .  She competed against many college swimmers, Olympians and foreign swimmers.  Mikaela swam a best time in her 100 fly hitting a new USA AAAA time of 1:05.06 and a USA AAAA time of 27.85 in her 50 freestyle.  She also achieved two new USA AAA times in her 100 and 200 breaststrokes.  During the high school season, Mikaela also hit three automatic All-American times in the 50 free, 100 fly and 100 breaststroke.

Hard worker of the month goes to seven year old, David Mertz.  Coach Janine Joy said, “David has shown huge improvements during practice and at meets.  He is a joy to have in class, and he ALWAYS has a positive attitude and tries his very best.  Because of his attitude, attendance, and work ethic, I have chosen him as Worker of the Month!”
