| Jan 2009 ~ AquaSol Qualifies 11 for Far Westerns |
![]() Thirteen members of the AquaSol year-around USA swim team attended the Cal Invitational at UC Berkeley in a short-course meet to compete in a field of 400 senior swimmers representing 35 teams Jan. 17-19. Eleven AquaSol swimmers qualified for the short course Far Westerns in Morgan Hill in April including Nick Hood, Dan Levine, Coleman Goode, Kevin Mertz, Aaron Vaccaro and Morgan Lloyd. Representing the girls are Mikaela Macklin, Hannah Sparkman, Amy Wisdom, Kirstie Sanew and Riley Heryet. In addition to the swimmers qualified for Far Westerns, Gabi Avallone is a new Junior Olympic qualifier. Vaccaro swam to first place in the 50-yard freestyle race at the Cal Berkeley invite with a personal best 21.95, qualifying for the Speedo Sectional Champion-ships in Las Vegas Feb. 25. Macklin had qualified in all her swim events but her commitment to the El Dorado girls basketball team prevents her from competing. In addition, Lloyd qualified for the Speedo meet last summer in the 100 and 200 butterfly races. The senior swimmer of the month for January is 15-year-old Quinn Beattie. “Quinn has had a super attendance in January and has worked hard,” AquaSol coach Steve Skidmore said. “This was a great month for her. She is miles ahead of where she was last year at this time.” The junior swimmer of the month is Anna Christeson, 10.
“Anna is a definite team player, a good listener, has great attendance and is willing to put in the extra effort when asked,” coach Janine Joy said. “Anna has transitioned well from her recreational team and is succeeding in the year-round environment. She’s a pleasure to have on the team and is a great role model for young kids engaged in athletics.” Cal Invitational results:
