Kirstie Sanew (Union Mine High) has been swimming since the age of 9 when she joined the Dolphins. She swam for them for 4 years when the coach suggested trying AquaSol. She fell in love with Coach Terry and the program. Swimming has always kept Kirstie balanced in her life. Swimming has been "my entire universe for ten years now". It has meant everything to her and helped make her into the person she is today. She has learned how to work hard for the things she wants and that perseverance really does pay off. Swimming has given her one of the greatest gifts she could ever ask for and that is friendship: swim team was her family. Swimming has enriched her life. Kirstie will be attending Sac State - applying for the Honors Program. She has a 3.97 GPA. She is interested in studying Child Development.

| Riley Heryet (Union Mine High) discovered swimming at age 10 when Kirstie talked her into trying PGA, and then Dolphins. It was love at first stroke, until a shoulder injury in her sophomore year. After a year long struggle with that, she never quite rekindled her former passion for the sport, but she is a different person because of the time she has spent in the pool, and around the people connected with swimming. There is something about kids who swim - they are just special - and overall it has been a wonderful experience. Riley has a 4.25 GPA and is something like 6th in her class. She is going to UC San Diego next year, and will be majoring in International Studies. She is not fast enough to make the team there, but will probably always find some way to stay in the pool for fitness purposes.

| Grant Thompson (Union Mine High) started swimming with the Dolphins when he was 7. He came home from school and told his mom to sign him up, that he was going to be on a swim team. Grant was fiercely determined, and soon knew lots of kids and how to dive and, yes, all the strokes. He really hated to stop swimming after the summer, so he started doing PGA with Gerri and Terry, and then when he was 12 he started going year-round with Terry. He says his favorite thing about swimming is being in the water - he's all about the water! Grant really has enjoyed his time at UM, and his favorite subject has been math, especially AP Calculus. He is going to go to the University of California, Santa Cruz, and he will major in Bioengineering. Santa Cruz is not only in the redwoods, but it's right by the ocean, and Grant is looking forward to some ocean kayaking. | Grant Thompson |
