SWIM TEAM GROUP STRUCTURE

The group structure at AquaSol is designed to place each swimmer in the program where they are able to pursue their goals in the most efficient manner. Swimmers are placed in workout groups based on:
1. The ability of the swimmer in training and competition
2. The developmental and chronological age of the swimmer
3. The level of commitment of the swimmer and the parents.
All group changes and assignments are based on the professional knowledge and experience of the coaching staff for the benefit of the swimmer and

AquaSol. If a swimmer is interested in moving up to the next level, he or she will need to submit a letter to the AquaSol Coach. AquaSol reserves the right to determine the members of its team. The training teams at AquaSol are created based on four phases of growth and development:

Pre-Team -
For children 5 years old that are water safe, but have yet to learn proper side breathing in freestyle, and that are not yet proficient in any of the other 3 strokes. Participants are taught basic practice rules and etiquette, as well as an introduction to butterfly, back and Breaststroke. This group meets three times per week.

Level 1 - BASIC SKILL DEVELOPMENT (8 & Under)- This group is about learning basic stroke and skill development by way of stroke drills and repetitive practice. Very little emphasis is placed upon speed or endurance. Nearly all of the content is about perfecting technique. Swimmers in this group should be able to comfortably swim 50 yards of freestyle and at least that of one ore more of the other 3 strokes. Meet participation is encouraged where appropriate.

Level 2 - BASIC TRAINING DEVELOPMENT (10 & Under)-This group is about making a bigger commitment to the sport and to the team. Swimmers in this group learn to "train" using the pace clock without sacrificing the quality of their technique. The continued use of drills, and skill practice is important here. Participation in all of our team designated meets is expected here.

Level 3 - PROGRESSIVE TRAINING DEVELOPMENT (12 & Under)-This group represents the highest commitment to the sport from it's participants age 12 and under. Attendance is vital to the swimmer's progress. 5-6 practices per week is expected. The daily yardage is between 4500 and 5500 yards with some dry land as well. Swimmers in this group are expected to participate in all team designated meets.

Pre-Senior and Senior (13 & Over)-This group is for committed athletes with long range goals in swimming. While we offer as many as 10 practices per week, swimming as many double practices is highly encouraged. Attendance is the most important part of swimming at this level. Meet attendance is also extremely important, as each meet per month is a measure of progress. Swimmers are expected to be able to handle workouts of up to 8000 yards. Stoke and skill work is given on a weekly basis. Swimmers in this group are encouraged to reach a national.

Swimming Organizations

USA Swimming Information

USAS is the national governing body for the sport of swimming with over 250,000 members and over 2000 participating clubs across America. With membership, each AquaSol athlete is tied to our Olympians who, as members of USAS, have maintained our country as the best swimming nation in the world for over 40 years.

Each AquaSol swimmer will receive a USA Swimming membership card with an individual USAS number which will remain the same for the length of a swimmers career. Every swimmer also receives from USAS a subscription to "Splash!" Magazine. All AquaSol swimmers are covered under USA Swimming’s general liability insurance policy. Communication

The primary source of communication is our team file folder system. Within a week of joining, each family will have a file where they can find important information on meets and upcoming events. We also communicate via email. You will be added to our email list within a week of joining. Please check your email daily for important announcements, meet sheets, etc.

AquaSol strives to keep an open line of communication between swimmers, parents and coaches. Keeping coaches aware of any problems that a swimmer may be having helps them to be better coaches for that athlete. Parents with a brief question, comment or concern should see a coach either before or after practice. Parents wishing to discuss something in detail should set an appointment. Parents should only approach a coach during practice time during an emergency.

Illness and Injury

Whenever possible, the coach should be informed of an illness or injury. Regardless of how serious or trivial it may be, it will almost always be possible to find a physician (or parent) who will recommend abstaining from training and one who will recommend a modified approach. It is helpful to find a family physician who appreciates the importance of participation and who understands the repercussions associated with missed meets and training sessions. If your swimmer will be out of the water over a long period of time due to an injury or illness, please notify the swimmer’s coach, so the coaching staff is aware of the problem.

The AquaSol coaching staff reserves the right to consult and follow the USA Swimming and the U.S.A. Swim Coaching Association guidelines regarding a swimmer’s return to training following an illness or injury.  Any deviation from the recommendation from the USA Swimming guidelines and the U.S.A. Swim Coaches Association guidelines will require a medical release from a licensed physician.
