July 2006 ~ Erik Hunter

AquaSol's Erik Hunter, 16, competed at the Western Sectional Meet in Bakersfield in late July and not only qualified for Junior Nationals in two events, he achieved two U.S. Open cuts in the 400-yard Individual Medley and the 400 freestyle races.

After three days of competing, Hunter left Bakersfied late Saturday night to compete in the Junior Olympic meet in Davis to support the AquaSol team. Hunter turned in three personal best times and qualifed for Junior Nationals in the 200 IM and the 800 freestyle events. He also broke his 400 free time from the sectional meet.

Hunter wasn't done. He broke the Sierra Nevada Junior Olympic records in the 200 IM, 400 and 800 freestyle, making the US Open cut in the latter event.

The Union Mine swimming phenom was chosen by the three AquaSol coaches as the swimer of the month. In addition to his swimming achievements in competition, he works out in 10 practice sessions a week and is always trying to help his teammates.

"Erik has an incredible work ethic and is always trying his best to keep improving," said the AquaSol coaching staff collectively.
