First Swim Meet
To swim in meets, you must be a registered USA Swimmer and have a Swim Connection account. It is your responsibility to sign up for meets. Most meets close very quickly. Please be sure to sign up ASAP so you don't miss the meet! If you don't know what events to sign your child up for, please ask the coaches.
Following are instructions on how to sign-up for a meet and what to expect at a swim meet:
How to Register for USA Swimming & Swim Connection: Swim Connection is the online site where you register for USA Swimming and sign up for swim meets.
Go to Swim Connection site. Click on Club Pages Central. Click on SN-Sierra Nevada. Click on Login - you can create a new account here - it's free. Once you login or create an account, click on New/Renew Swimmer Registration (on left side). This is where you can register or renew for USA Swimming. How to Sign up for a Swim Meet: Swim Connection - Online Meet Entries
Sign in with your username & password (from step above). Click on the team meet you'll be swimming at. Click on Online Meet Entry. Follow instructions given from Swim Connection.
If you're a first time swimmer, enter all times as NT (no times). For new & clinic swimmers, while we encourage you to try new events, always consult your coach prior to entering meets as some events may not be appropriate for your swimmers ability & experience. Pay with a credit card. You'll receive 2 emails from Swim Connection. One is a billing receipt and the other is Meet Confirmation. Please forward your meet entries This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
What to Bring: Proof of meet confirmation, USA Swim card (should be in your file folder at the pool), extra AquaSol cap, extra goggles, suit, warm clothes, cooler with drinks & food, chairs, toys and/or games, sunscreen, team wear, warm shoes, and towels. When to Arrive at the Meet: All swimmers are expected to arrive at the start of warm-ups. Please check the meet sheet or our website for specific instructions for meet warm-up times (they vary). Check in Right Away! This is located at the Clerk of Course. Initial by your name and circle the events you're swimming. Write your event numbers on your hand. Warm-Ups: All AquaSol swimmers are required to warm-up. Please find your coach on the deck and warm-up together. Please wear your AquaSol cap. During warm-ups, you enter the pool feet first only. Circle swim. Practice your turns for each event. Every swimmer is required to do at least two starts when they open up a dive lane. Parents: At meets, AquaSol is required to provide timers and officials. As a parent member, you are responsible for timing at meets. If we do not provide enough officials or timers at meets, the swimmers will not receive any ribbons or awards. A list of timing assignments will be sent out a few days prior to the meet and will be posted at the meet in the team area.
Team Meeting: AquaSol coaches will hold a team meeting for swimmers after the warm-up and before the meet begins. We will go over meet instructions, do a team cheer, and take a team picture. All swimmers are required to attend this important meeting each day! Before you Race: Check for your heat and lane assignment. These are usually posted near the warm-up area. Tell your coach your heat and lane assignment. Make sure to come talk to your coach BEFORE your race so we can give you some final words of advice!
When you Swim: Report to the blocks early. Double check with the timers in your lane to make sure you're in the correct heat / lane. Be ready for your event! The meet starter should announce the event and heat number. After the first heat, they will announce the next heat to the block. When it is your heat, you stand behind the blocks ready to swim. After the long whistle, you stand on the block and get ready to start. They don't give you time to fidget around on the block. So, once you're up there, be ready (goggles on)!
After your race: Wait for all the swimmers in that heat to finish before you get out. Some meets have fly-over starts. This means you wait quietly in the water, on the wall, while the next heat starts their race (over you). After they start, you exit the pool. Get your final time from the timers (the coach will ask what it was).
Warm-Down Immediately After your Race: All swimmers are required to warm-down. After warming down, please SEE your coach to talk about your swim. Team Cheering: Please cheer for your teammates throughout the day. As a swimmer, it's always nice to see your teammates cheering for you during a race. Results: Please pick up your own ribbons. Swim Connection will send your meet results via email usually by the next day. The AquaSol Website Administrator will then write the article about the meet and post it on the website. Leaving the Meet: Please be sure to tell the coaches you are leaving for the day. We might have you in a relay and we don't want you to miss your event. Please be sure to clean up your area. |
