Haley Owens, 16, a member of the Aquasol USA swim team, is one of eight swimmers from the Sacramento region named a Scholar Athlete by USA Swimming, the sport’s national governing body.

The award is given to members of USA Swimming that achieve time standards that are “Grand Prix” level while maintaining a high GPA. Last year, the El Dorado High sophomore with a 4.1 GPA achieved standards in the 100 and 200 meter breastroke, going 1:14.72 and 2:42.00, respectively.

“Haley has enormous talent and is a great student-athlete. She has a lot going for her,” coach Steve Skidmore said.
