Senior Team members compete at Husky Invitational!

Seven members of the Aquasol Swim Team’s Senior group traveled to Federal Way, Washington to compete in a three day (December 6th – 8th, 2013) trials and finals Championship meet.  There were 1,007 swimmers competing in the meet.  The teams competing were from college and USA Swimming programs.

The opportunity to compete at this meet was a tremendous learning experience for all the athletes.  It allowed the swimmers to race against college swimmers and some of the top age group swimmers in the country.

This meet required certain time standards for a swimmer to be able to compete in the meet.  Each of the seven swimmers competed in at least four events over the course of the weekend.  Haley Owens, a senior at El Dorado High School, was four for four in best times and made finals in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.  In the 100 breaststroke Haley finished 4th overall and in the 200 breaststroke she finished 6th overall.  Haley’s time in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.22) qualified her for the Scholastic All American Award.  Kaela Marcus, a junior at El Dorado High School, swam to six best times and also made the finals in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.  In the 100 breaststroke Kaela finished 5th overall and in the 200 breaststroke she finished 4th overall.  Kaela’s times also qualified her for the Scholastic All American Award.  Gary Woo, a freshman at Ponderosa High School, competed in four events and went best times in all four events.  At the same time he lowered his three team records for the 13 & 14 year old boys in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke.  He also broke the team record in the 100 freestyle for the 13 & 14 year old boys.  Molly Covington, a sophomore at El Dorado High School, swam to three best times with a highlight swim being a :57.70 in the 100 freestyle.  Jason Williams, a senior at Union Mine High School, swam best times in the 50 and 100 freestyle and made the finals in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly.

The relay team of Kyle Covington, Haley Owens, Kaela Marcus and Samantha Woo entered the meet ranked 58 in the 200 medley relay.  During the competition they dropped over 10 seconds off of their seed time and moved up to the 28th spot.

Congratulations to all the swimmers for a great weekend, tremendous efforts and wonderful team work cheering and supporting one another.  Thanks to Ron Marcus for chaperoning over the course of the weekend and to Dana Covington for officiating at the meet.
